    How-To Install Linux-OBS+NDI
Go To The OBS Linux Installation Instructions Follow the instructions for your Linux archicture. Here is what I did for 64bit Ubuntu 18.04 in a terminal window:
sudo apt install ffmpeg
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:obsproject/obs-studio
sudo apt update
sudo apt install obs-studio
Go to the OBS-NDI Github
Download libndi4_4.5.1-1_amd64.deb
Download obs-ndi_4.9.0-1_amd64.deb
Install the two 'deb' files by opening your file navigator and navigating to the files just downloaded
Double click on libndi4_4.5.1-1_amd64.deb
Click on Install and enter your sudo password
When the installation completes, double click on obs-ndi_4.9.0-1_amd64.deb
Click on Install and enter your sudo password
Version 4.9.0 has a slight bug where the obs-plugin is not installed in the correct directory.
To fix this, open a terminal and run these two commands:
cd /usr/lib/obs-plugins
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x84_64-linux-gnu/obs-plugins/obs-ndi.so ./obs-ndi.so

What is OBS?

OBS is the Open Broadcaster Software, an Open Source streaming video solution.

OBS is used to collect audio and video from a number of sources, mix and organize the output, and transfer the data stream to Facebook or YouTube livestreaming servers. OBS will also record the outgoing livestream for preservation or further editing.

At WCC we regularly use a variety of content and information sources during a normal worship assembly or class session. This ranges from pre-recorded or pre-arranged digital sources like PowerPoint slideshows, pre-recorded videos or web-browser sessions, to live-action activities like mixing voices from the podium or table microphones, preacher’s lapel mic, and sometimes sounds generated by the computer. Throw in a video camera or two and the future possibilities are endless.

OBS is made for the task of combining all the inputs into an orderly stream of data. It’s used by many churches for the livestreaming of formal assemblies, bible classes and other learning events for use immediately or preserved for later. OBS is also used by many podcasters and gaming enthusiasts to share their work with friends and fans alike.

The WCC multimedia ministry started using OBS for four main reasons:

  1. OBS is capable of mixing our content into the right format and distributing it to the right places with relatively little technical expertise or expense.
  2. OBS is freely available for anyone to download and use
  3. OBS is surprisingly well-supported, even at its $0 price point.
  4. OBS can also work as a simple A/V recorder using the same sources used for livestreaming
This document will help you get comfortable with it, learn where the emergency stop buttons are, and explore for yourself how we can use it within the ministry.

Installing OBS

Go to the OBS Project and bookmark the location. It will be your first source for documentation and help.

Click on the download link and download then install the version for your computer.

Once OBS is installed on your computer, the first thing you should see is an offer for the system to autoconfigure everything. You can do that if you want, but it will require a livestreaming key and server URL before you can complete the process so let’s skip that for now. Click No.

If you’re going to use OBS very often on your Windows computer, you might want to pin it to the taskbar for easy access. Right click on it in the taskbar, then click on Pin to taskbar.

Now, before you read anything else, go back to OBS Quickstart and read through the Quick Start Guide.

The Quick Start Guide should be enough to get you going.

If not, read on.
